THE SWEET CHEF
Decadent Special Occassion Cakes
The Sweet Chef - dcandent cakes and cookies When April Qureshi baked her first cake at the age of seven, she didn't know she was beginning her career.

"I've always been interested in baking," says Qureshi. "As soon as I was able, my mom and I would get together and bake cakes until it was just me doing it."

Located in lower Gibsons April Qureshi, The Sweet Chef, started LIVING THE DREAM earlier this spring.

The Sweet Chef provides designer wedding cakes, gourmet cookies and decadent special occasion cakes to both the retail and wholesale markets. Some of their local wholesale clients include The Gumboot Garden Cafe and Restaurant, Cafe Sante, Mike's Place and The Georgia Straight Cafe.

They also offer made-to-order designer cakes and specialty desserts for pick-up Tuesday - Saturday 10AM - 3PM and are open for in-house service Friday and Saturday 10AM -3PM.

The Sweet Chef's focus is to use all natural, seasonal and local ingredients. "It has to be all butter, fresh eggs and Belgian chocolate, " says Qureshi. "It's the only way I can bake."

A few of their mouth-watering fall offerings include Poached Pear and Vanilla Bean Creme Brulee, Landing Crostada filled with carmelized apples, fall plums or figs, and Brown Sugar Spiced Pumpkin Pie with Maple Whipped Cream.

TAKE THE PLUNGE
Public Speaking Skills with James Redfern
James Redfern takes a plunge James Redfern is one of several workshop facilitators for the ASPIRE self-employment program.

Fear of public speaking is the most common phobia affecting 75% of all people. Public speaking is difficult to avoid for business people that need to get the word out about their products and services.

Fortunately, for Aspire program participants they receive coaching and training in public speaking from James Redfern. James' workshop covers the basics of impromptu speaking so even the most reluctant speaker discovers a leap in their confidence level.

James owns Snug Cove Chairs in Gibsons - an outdoor furniture company specializing in Adirondack Chairs. He's a self-professed Toastmaster Junkie attending both the weekly Sechelt and Gibsons chapter meetings.

Aspire particpants tel us that because James models excellent communication skills in the public speaking workshop it encourages them to take the plunge and improve their public speaking skills!

Pass it on! Please forward our email newsletter to other business people, family and friends that might be interested in the Aspire Self Employment Program or contacting the new businesses in our community.
